Brand Information
Born Florence Nightingale Graham, Elizabeth Arden was late starting in the business of beauty products. She worked a variety of jobs before developing her own range at the age of 30. She is often called the inventor of the American beauty industry.

She is one of the few entrepreneurs who has started with cosmetics and fragrances and only later took on selling couture clothing in her Salon (most designer brands start with fashion and only later venture into perfume). Elizabeth Arden was obsessed with providing skin care for women in the US after World War II.

She started with doing treatments for customers in a beauty salon before starting out on her own with her first face cream. When she visited Europe she saw women wearing make-up in their everyday lives which inspired her to change the views on the matter in her homeland. Elizabeth Arden make-up range had become very popular and over the years the company and Elizabeth herself have been very good at adapting to trends and customer's needs.

She managed to attract the global market relatively quickly because of her ability to answer consumer's needs, her commitment to quality and excellence as well as her enthusiasm.

Her first perfume was created in 1934. It was called Blue Grass and has become so popular that it is still being produced till this day. It is a floral green scent that combines carnation and jasmine with narcissus, sandalwood, musk, lavender and neroli.

Since her death in 1966 the company has continued on the tradition of quality cosmetics products with global success.

The company has been heavily taxed after Miss Arden's death and many salons had to be closed. Eli Lilly and Company has bought it in 1971 and Elizabeth Arden as a brand is still going strong today concentrating on make-up, skin care and fragrance production. There is over 30 perfumes in the range today.
